Product Development Manager
Polymer Compounding

The Company:
Our client is part of a global network of companies manufacturing thermoplastic compounds from sites around the world. The company has exciting growth plans to further develop its European presence and the Product Development Manager is a crucial role to help the business fulfill these ambitious objectives.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
· Develop new polymer materials and processes to meet market requirements and ensure technical and commercial competitiveness. Support trials for production scale-up of new products.
· Support the Production department in optimising the compounding process to maximise manufacturing efficiency, product quality and performance whilst minimising waste.
· Provide technical support to customers; advice on component design, tool design, material selection and processing (injection moulding).
· To provide technical support for the investigation of customer complaints.
· Generate material data and provide Technical presentations to customers.
· Identify business opportunities at new and existing customers.
· Manage and interpret customer requirements and provide solutions to meet or exceed their needs.
· Assist Purchasing department in the procurement of raw materials to optimise margin, product quality and product performance.
· Contribute to advice on safe handling of raw materials and finished goods in compliance with health and safety requirements.
· Provide product training to employees and customers.
Person Profile:
· Degree in a scientific discipline ideally with a bias towards polymer science
· Experience of working in a technical role within the plastics industry, preferably thermoplastics/rubber compounding.
· Specific knowledge of injection moulding applications and of formulating compounds. Experience in Polypropylene, TPO/TPE and recycled materials would be an advantage.
· Experience of polymer development (formulating composites or compounds)
· Able to demonstrate good technical knowledge combined with proven expertise in technical service.
· Experience of the automotive or domestic appliance industries is an advantage
· Experience of Quality Management Systems – ISO 9001:2015
