The Principal Software Engineer role is the ultimate role for an engineer who has been there, done it and got the t-shirts, stickers and battle scars to prove it!

You will provide expert level knowledge for native app development. Together with the Engineering Manager, you will set the technical vision for the SkyBet iOS app and influence native first thinking throughout the Bet Tribe and beyond. You will act as a technical point of escalation for squads of highly skilled individuals with a mission to deliver the best app experience to SB&G Customers.

How you’ll do it
Engineering
You will champion and contribute to our commitment of continuous improvement in software delivery, coding practices, application quality and agile processes. Working in conjunction with the Engineer Manager and Lead Software Engineers you will ensure our engineers are technically able to do the job at hand. You will maintain and uphold the Bet Tribe SDLC, and make suggestions for improvements to working practices for the squads that you support.
You’ll be:
Highly skilled in Swift
Familiar with the latest iOS SDKs and APIs and how to harness them to create amazing app experiences
Familiar with Objective-C
Proficient with CocoaPods & SPM for dependency management
A power user of Git source control
A confident communicator, both through documentation and the spoken word.
You’ll:
Live and breathe Xcode IDE
Have an excellent understanding of software architecture and object orientated principles in particular MVVM, Dependency Injection and State Management patterns
Have a deep understanding of HTTP APIs, requests and responses (in various flavours…GraphQL / Rest etc)
Maintain a keen interest in the latest mobile development trends and share exciting updates
Bonus Points for:
a familiarity with native Android app development
a familiarity with large scale web frontend development (HTML, CSS, Javascript)
having a working understanding of cloud computing and appreciate design systems at scale
being a regular contributor to the native mobile development community
People
You will be expected to be able to communicate at both a technical and non-technical level.
You will be able to convince and influence engineering managers, solutions architects, engineers and product owners across the squad and wider tribe and group.
You may also like to mentor engineers to ensure they develop in well rounded competent seniors for the tribe
Delivery & Operations
You will be involved early in the discovery process creating proof of concepts and solutions for the hard technical challenges.
You will engage early with solutions architects and other principal engineers to ensure that options selected are appropriate for the long term roadmap of our SkyBet app.
During the delivery lifecycle, you’ll provide specialist engineering know-how to the squads when required.
Operationally, you’ll support root cause analysis of incidents and ensure that the correct fixes are made. You might also suggest improvements to process that the squads can make via the EM or relevant LSE.
Product
As a specialist in the native domain, you will often suggest ideas for product improvements based around upcoming releases. These will often take the form of POCs and will demonstrate the power of native engineering.
