DESIGN THE FUTURE WITH A GLOBAL TEAM OF EXPERTS
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Civil/Structural team in York, giving you the opportunity to co-create with our experts on some of the most prestigious infrastructure programmes in the UK. Within Rail, we have worked closely with our client to develop and deliver their Tunnel Management Strategy. We also work closely with design and construct contractors to deliver tunnel inspection, repairs, strengthening and re-construction projects network wide.
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be responsible for:
- Checking and assessing projects across a wide range of engineering structures including repair and strengthening work to existing masonry tunnels and associate structures.
- Organising and management of site surveys and appraisals of various structures, masonry tunnels and foundations as appropriate.
- Project management, including cost/commercial aspects of projects.
- Coordinating the delivery of your projects to time and budget, ensuring an industry-leading standard of technical quality and compliance with our internal management systems
- Supervising, mentoring and developing less experienced engineers and technicians within your project teams, working with line managers to maximise training opportunities
- Developing and maintaining client relationships through your project work, including identifying and realising any potential business opportunities
- Liaison with clients, attending meetings on site, progress meetings, design review meetings.
- Assisting with the preparation of bids and tenders and supporting the Director’s in pursuing business development opportunities if required
- Production of engineering design, assessment or checking work including preparation or checking of calculations, written reports including feasibility and options reports and other contract deliverables.

Furthermore, you’ll;
- Be a chartered civil or structural engineer (MEng)
- Have significant experience in a design environment working on general engineering structures, below ground structures or foundations
- Have significant experience overseeing project teams and handling the delivery of projects, either as client’s or contractor’s designer, ideally both
- Be an accomplished team leader with the ability to support, mentor and develop less experienced engineers
- Have the inter-personal skills and aptitude to work collaboratively in a diverse multi-disciplinary team
- Have professional communication skills, both verbal and written
- Be a technically skilled engineer, able to demonstrate a deep understanding and enthusiasm for structural engineering.
- Full UK driving licence
