Akton recruitment has an exciting opportunity for a Personal advisor (Leaving Care) to join the team at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Job Role – Personal Advisor
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

1. Provision of Leaving Care Support Services to achieve a viable education, training and employment pathway for care leavers through direct work with young people or joint working with their Personal Advisors.
2. Working with individual service users to provide support, advice, guidance, assistance, and counselling, with the aim of enhancing their employability and future career prospects.

3. Provision of services within the statutory requirements of the relevant childcare, mental health and community care legislation, in line with the requirements of the Council’s policies and procedures.

4. Having an awareness of local education, training and employment providers and what they can offer for care leavers. Building a close working relationship with them.

5. Actively seeking out and working with care leavers who are not in education, training or employment (NEET) and helping them to secure opportunities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To manage the NEET list and work alongside personal advisors to monitor the young person’s education, training and employment plan.

2. Respond to requests for support and assistance, taking sufficient basic information about the needs in question to be able to determine the level and type of assessment required.

3. Ensuring that education, training and employment plans pay particular attention to individual strengths, areas for further development and action plan for moving onto independence; ensuring that the views of the young people are communicated to the Personal Advisor.

4. Liaise with other specialists and agencies as necessary to enable a young person to sustain their education, training or employment if this is at risk of breaking down.

5. Assist users and carers to play a full part in planning by extending to them advice, support and guidance with the young person’s consent.

6. Identifying what particular barriers a young person may have or may be experiencing in relation to securing or sustaining education, training or employment activities. Working alongside the Personal Advisor and young person to explore ways to overcome these barriers.

7. Maintain an effective system for monitoring education, training and employment Plans and reviewing these within timescales, including accurately and consistently updating electronic calendar reflecting daily activities.

8. Maintain case records and fulfil procedures and statutory duties in line with national and local policies, practices and procedures.
