This is a vacancy for a paralegal working with noted lawyers, as part of our London Clinical Negligence team.
The team conducts a range of clinical negligence cases from catastrophic injury (brain damage and spinal cord) through to fatal incidents. We act for a range of clients, from young children through to the elderly and represent families on behalf of deceased relatives, who have died in the course of medical treatment. Malcolm conducts child abuse compensation claims. His cases include acting on behalf of both adults and children who have been the victims of abuse, in schools, care homes and familial settings.
Our case work is drawn nationally and we will sometimes see clients in their homes. The clients are often badly injured and affected by the circumstances that gave rise to their claims and need careful and considerate treatment by the team. Malcolm’s caseload includes personal injury and clinical negligence claims, and the successful applicant will be assisting him with these too.
Our London Clinical Negligence team is part of the national Clinical Negligence team based across our London, Oxford and Southampton offices.

You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The primary role will be:
conducting new client interviews by telephone, and in person
requesting and collating medical records and social services and other third party records
drafting witness statements
preparing letters of instruction to experts
assisting with the gathering in of quantum evidence and quantifying claims
preparing schedules of loss
preparing court applications
assisting with the preparation of funding documentation making applications for legal aid
preparing applications to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.
requirements
You should be computer literate and be able to produce your own correspondence and documents, with good administrative skills. You will need to be organised, produce accurate work, able to work as part of a team and meet demanding deadlines. Experience of office working and civil litigation practice will be valuable. You will need to answer calls from clients and you will have a role in organising meetings with the clients and experts. Many of our clients have suffered from distressing personal events associated with their injuries and you will need to handle communications with them sensitively whilst also obtaining relevant information.
