An opportunity has arisen to be responsible for establishing our online thought leadership, to drive the online agenda externally with our retail partners and to achieve market outperformance.

The online grocery market is over £8bn in the UK and growing at 15% year on year, with 4.4% of sales going through online. Online snacking represents £57m and is growing ahead of total market. However, in terms of share of sales through online, the confectionery category under trades vs Total Grocery, so there is an opportunity to start closing the underperformance gap, by driving disproportionate growth of category and online sales. In order to protect our position within the UK market, we need to ensure we future proof ourselves, by leading the agenda within our key growth channels.
This led to our Trading Strategy ambition to be leaders and architects of category growth online.
The person in this position will have both commercial and strategy responsabilities, and will lead the online and agenda within the business.
Given the size and prominence of the UK within our global business, this person will also feed into MEU and Global strategic priorities, share UK best practices within the global organisation, and support in embedding expertise within the UK, and other European Markets.
This person would be responsible for establishing our online thought leadership, to drive the online agenda externally with our retail partners, to achieve market outperformance for this growing online format à Build our relationship with our retail partners through an online contact strategy and establish as recognised thought leaders in digital shopper marketing and as value-adding partners.
This person will form part of the ESLT and have all customer controller accountabilities, managing the UK online P&L, and setting and meeting our online sales targets.
Reporting to the Customer Development Director – Tesco & Online.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Controller
Accountable for delivery of revenue and growth targets through online channel.
Lead the Cluster P&L
Lead the customer terms and JBP Process
Lead online format planning (activations, promotions, key sales drivers) as part of the total account JBP process. Translate centrally agreed plans to the online format.
Develop senior level relationship with online customers, widen and deepen the contact base with all kkey external stakeholders and jointly develop the Online and digital agenda around key priorities
Lead BSCP process with strategic online customers
Online Strategy Lead
Establish the key pillars of our online Strategy
Set online targets and priorities
Embed the online strategy wthin the UK business
Build the expertise with cross functional teams
Take a leadership role in influencing MEU and global strategic pillars
Development of toolkits to guide and optimise online activation platforms
Global eCommerce accountability
Key contributor and member of our Core Global eCommerce team
Share UK BPs globally
Support in embedding expertise at MEU and global level
Help shape our MEU and Global eCommerce strategy
Work with central team to set the standard for Perfect Online Store and Online Picture of Success
Online-specific solutions
Develop online-specific solutions for campaigns, events and occasions
Drive incremental opportunities for online-specific products and promotions
Guide and supervise online activation plans
External thought leadership
Bring to life category vision within the online environoment
Co-create online impulse strategy with strategic partners
Lead e-Category management with retailers
Lerverage our cross-functional resources, to establish credible, insight-led recommendations, to take to retailers
Lead Cross-Functional Steering committee
Set up and lead a cross – functional steer committee to enable end to end online sales solutions
Co-create the joint ambition and charter
Leverage existing digital assets, capabilities and platforms to drive media meets commerce agenda
Innovation Projects
Commercialise new technology platforms/ capabilities/ tools/ media into relevant shopper-focused concepts and activation mechanics that build competitive advantage.
Develop joint digital initiatives with our strategic accounts that step change our performance in ‘digital selling’ and harness new opportunities to drive against strategic business KPIs.
Gain a deeper and broader understanding of their digital agenda and long term strategy in order to find new opportunities to grow our mutual business.
Measure, Report and share
Set online performance and perfect online store KPIs
Work with insights and analytics team to measure sales performance for our categories and for with the three main accounts.
Input sales data into the online sales report and share results and online team meetings
Develop processes and scorecards, to optimise decision making and inform key stakeholders of progress against our KPIs
Share best practices, performance and activations with key internal stakeholders
Manager and Director
Know the ethical and legal compliance responsibilities of the position; lead ethically and model compliant behaviour; maintain an environment where employees can speak up without fear of retaliation; ensure employees in area of responsibility understand the compliance responsibilities of their jobs and actively participate in the compliance program
Candidate Requirements:
To be successful in this role you will have,
University degree preferred
English language – fluent
