Salary: £34,165 per year

Position – RGN – Sexual Health, Family Planning, Registered Nurse
Salary – £34,165+ pro rata
Hours – Part Time Hours
Location – Colchester

My client is a marketing focused, results oriented social enterprise. They develop efficient, effective and sustainable family planning programmes in the UK and overseas. The UK division provides services to men and women over 130,000 times a year.

They are currently looking for experienced RGN’s with a genuine interested in sexual health/gynaecology and family planning services to work in the Early Medical Unit based in Colchester. The unit is due to open in December and various part time hours are available 2-3 days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday).

Please note, you will train in one of the main surgical centres, either Essex or Norwich before being released to Colchester EMU. As a result, your travel expenses will be paid for during the training period.

Shift patterns are variable with starts as early as 07:30, and finishing at 17:30. Later finishes are sometimes necessary.

Day-to-day involves working in a busy and demanding environment where you will provide excellent clinical care and guidance to their clients at all times offering services which include, contraception, emergency contraception, pregnancy testing, unplanned pregnancy consultations, early medical abortion, surgical abortion, vasectomy, STI testing and treatment, cervical screening, blood testing and ultrasound scanning (once training is completed).

Please be aware this is not a family planning role; it is RGN position where you will spend 80-90% of your time dealing with women going through medical or surgical terminations. For the first 12 – 18 months you will spend all of your time at the latter stages of a client journey with the company, i.e scrubbing in surgery and administering medical termination drugs. Only once you have had lots of exposure to this environment you can then start getting involved with the initial conversation, administering of MA drugs and discussing birth control options.

This due to the position involving a lot of questions from the client and you need to have a thorough knowledge of the area as to what the client can expect. Once you have a good understanding of the TOP procedure and client flow, you will start to rotate around the centre covering different areas and going on training sessions – such as ultrasound and ultimately having a more variety in your job.

The pro rata salary for this role is £34,165+ per year.

This is a rewarding role and would suit someone who enjoys working autonomously and in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing excellent care and have a keen interest in sexual and reproductive healthcare. In addition to this, you will have:

• worked within a Nurse led environment
• post-registration experience of working in a fast paced, high activity environment to time-slotted appointments i.e. A&E, theatre, acute, labour ward, outpatients or work experience as a practise nurse
• a proven ability to manage and prioritise own workload and patient case load under minimal supervision
• excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
• the ability to work in a close team and enjoy supporting colleagues

In return for the commitment and hard work that you show, you will be provided with career support, on the job training (such as ultrasound scanning) and a supportive environment for development, as well as a competitive benefits package (including 25 days annual leave, up to 5% pension contribution, season ticket loan etc).
