Materials Analyst
We are looking for an experienced Materials Analyst for a permanent role based in Northampton. You will be responsible for supervising the work flow through the metallurgical laboratory and offer administrative support to the Head of Technical Services and perform technical analytic duties providing support to materials development projects.
Responsibilities
* Support the head of technical services with administrative tasks including monthly timesheets, purchases approval, CAPEX requests and the staff appraisal and development process
* Perform the analysis of materials and components using SEM, Optical microscopy
* To interpret results and prepare technical reports relating to rig & engine tested bearings and internal benchmarking activities
* Provide analytic support to materials development projects and support the manufacturing sites in terms of production
* Maintain the analysis request, results, and sample archive databases
* Build a network of external links with academic institutions
* Generate and collate the necessary data and assist with the creation of product specifications
* Assist with continuous improvement of laboratory procedures through the QM master plan
Requirements
* Degree in Material Science or Metallurgy or relevant experience
* Strong knowledge of scanning electron microscopy inc X-ray micro analysis, optical microscopy
* Strong knowledge of materials laboratory practices is essential
* Can interpret results and good report writing skills are essential
* Proven and established experience in testing/failure analysis, materials R&D in the automotive, aerospace
* Knowledge of automotive bearing materials is desirable competencies
* Natural analytic ability demonstrating a value added approach
