Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you’ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.
As the Maintenance Engineer you will be based at our Luton site supporting our Civil and Defence business lines whilst reporting to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager within our engineering department. The Maintenance Engineer will perform machinery and facility asset care together with aiding the delivery of an effective and total productive maintenance service to site. You will join a team of six and support the application of engineering concepts for the optimization of assets, procedures and departmental budgets to achieve better maintainability, reliability, and availability.
The Maintenance Engineer will be required to work a weekly alternating shift pattern: Shift A: Monday to Thursday 6am to 2pm and Friday 6am to 11am. Shift B: Monday to Thursday 2pm to 10pm and Friday 11am to 4pm (shift allowance payable) and there is the opportunity (optional) to be on our on call rota (with additional premium).
• Exemplifying a safety-first mindset and ensuring compliance to the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards
• Work with Maintenance Engineering leadership in deployment of a preventative maintenance system
• Input and support condition based and predictive maintenance programme – thermography, oil analysis, vibration, ultrasonic, etc.
• Support practical problem solving and corrective action of assets breakdown
• Perform inspections of adjustments, parts, part replacements, overhauls, etc., for selected equipment
• Maintain and analyse equipment data and history records to predict maintenance needs
• Assessing required maintenance tools and skills required for efficient maintenance of equipment.
• Perform and demonstrate knowledge in Machine alignments, Hydraulics, pneumatics, Electrical appreciation etc.
• Demonstrate behaviour at all times that is aligned to the GKN Aerospace Culture Principles
Profile description:

Essential:
• Experience in a Facilities or Maintenance Engineering role within an Industrial or Manufacturing environment
• Significant Technical expertise in Maintenance or Facilities
• Proven experience in structured Problem Solving
• Good communication skills
Desirable:
• Professional qualification in engineering
• Experience of Continuous improvement and LEAN methodologies
• Lean or Six Sigma certification by a reputable certifying body or benchmark company
• Equipment/building maintenance experience in the Aerospace industry
• Experience in Maintenance Systems (CMMS)
