As our Lead Developer, you will lead and plan development across large or multiple teams, providing expertise in many technical areas or specialisms with very deep knowledge in a particular technical area. You’ll identify, test and champion the adoption of emerging technologies across the technology suite, defining and monitoring coding standards and best practices.

Key responsibilities of our Lead Developer include:

Being a founder member and helping to set up a new digital team within the Group, focusing on the Invest business, and being the technical lead for the team

Working closely with business and technical SMEs both within the organisation and third parties, to design, and with the team, to deliver, digital solutions in line with Group policies and standards

Undertaking a hands-on technical leadership role in the new team that will require development, especially prototyping and PoCs, but production code as well, especially during initial stages while the team is built up and matures

Undertaking impact assessments, sizing, solution architecture, design and documentation (through required approval gates), right through to delivery and quality assurance of delivered change as part of the agile delivery team

Contributing to developing, maintaining and publishing of principles, standards, guidelines and processes at CADS (Committee, Application Development Standards), contributing to Design standards and Patterns and forming part of the governing body of EADA, through a dotted line to the Group Architecture team

Assisting in Incident/Problem management where applicable for digital assets developed by the team, and a broader role with Invest digital assets developed by our third-party provider

What we are looking for in our ideal Lead Developer:

A successful track record in at least 1 technical specialism

A deep understanding of software engineering principles & practices as well as the specific technologies/languages employed by the teams such as C#.NET, JAVA, SOLID, Coding Standards, Unit Testing, Jenkins, Octopus and JIRA

The ability to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that streamline delivery to production

The ability to lead the discussion when solving technical problems, using a palette of suitable design patterns as a basis for the solution

The ability to fully comprehend appropriate architectural patterns designs that address the scope of the business problem, able to coach these to other engineers
