Industrial Design Engineer

Salary: £21.6 – £24 per hour

An exceptional Industrial Design Engineer is sought for one of the UKs most exciting and well-funded start-ups! Through new and innovative developments in hardware, software, opto-mechanical design and material engineering, this very exciting business is able to deliver solutions into a wide range of industries such as Automotive, Aerospace, Smart Home & IoT applications and beyond.

Reporting directly in the Managing Director, the Industrial Design Engineer will help with the creative design of brand-new technologies. You will be leading the development of new products using a range of CAD tools to create beautiful, ergonomic consumer electronic products/HMIs. You will also work alongside mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, software engineers and other highly skilled individuals to invent brand-new cutting-edge technologies and products.

SOME OF THE AREAS THE INDUSTRIAL DESIGN ENGINEER WILL LEAD ARE:

* User and design research such as human factors and ergonomics.

* Concept generation and development.

* Freehand sketching and 3D surface modelling using Solidworks or similar CAD package

* Creating photorealistic renders using Keyshot or equivalent package

* Liaising with engineers and key stakeholders to ensure your concepts are viable for manufacture / integration into OEM products.

* Communicating and pitching your concepts to senior management and key decision makers

* Liaise with 3rd party product design consultancies for outsourced design input

THE INDUSTRIAL DESIGN ENGINEER WILL HAVE:

* Proven experience as an Industrial Designer or Product Designer for a consumer technology business or design consultancy

* Qualified to degree level in either Product Design or Industrial Design

* A high level of proficiency using surfacing on a major 3D CAD system (such as Solidworks, CREO or NX) and rendering tools such as Keyshot.

* Excellent freehand sketching and presentation skills

* Experience of full life cycle design from blue sky thinking through to prototype and manufacture

* Experience of presenting to external stakeholders would be beneficial
