Industrial Chemist (Polyurethanes)

The role has three principle responsibilities

– The development of new products for the infrastructure coatings market
– Area manager for the coatings production work cell & product quality
– Design of experiments to assess lifetime & performance of coatings

The Role:

– To own the production cell. Responsibility for the capability state of the equipment, housekeeping, competence of operators, quality assurance and final product quality.
– The second part relates to the development of new products and the performance assessment of new products with a specific interest in the coatings market for things like pipes, chambers, etc.
– Work with the Business Development Manager to agree and prioritise the product developments and performance testing, as much as to flex/make sure production is occurring in a planned manner.
– Hands-on to the technical support engineering team for the day-to-day customer support work and production of customer facing communications.
– Part of the core team that will go out and develop this market segment.
– Degree qualified: good interpersonal skills

Experience required:

Essentials-

Materials Knowledge
– Working knowledge of isocyanate based 2-part polyurethane chemistry
– Working knowledge of catalyst technology & able to formulate recipes

Process Technology
– Working knowledge of mixing systems for resin formulation
– Able to define processes, manage a work area, use initiative

Product Performance
– Preferably a knowledge of spray application of PUR materials
– Design of experiments to predict lifetime of materials in-service application

Preferred-

Materials Knowledge
– Working knowledge of polyurea, epoxy and other pipe coating materials
– Development of coatings for pipeline applications
– Development of coatings for spray application to infrastructure
