Salary: £48,000 – £54,000 per year

Matchtech are delighted to be working on a fantastic and rare opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading Harbour Authorities as a Hydrographic Surveyor.

This is a unique chance to work on one of the UK’s major strategic trade gateways where over 15,000 commercial vessel transit take place per year. As the Hydrographic Surveyor, you will be providing a survey service for the Harbour Master’s and Harbour Engineering departments.
Primary responsibilities:
As the Hydrographic Surveyor you will:

* Work closely with the Harbour Master, proposing and agreeing a programme of hydrographic surveying, covering the whole of the organisation’s jurisdiction and appropriate surrounding areas. You will carry out the surveys, analyse the data and produce charts.
* Plan and carry out hydrographic surveys in support of demolition, construction and dredging operations as well as post-dredge clearance surveys.
* Provide emergency survey and support related to marine incidents including identifying, marking and clearing of obstructions and providing diver locations and support.
* Provide support on the environmental management of the company’s activities including carrying out environmental monitoring. You will also maintain an accurate database of the environmental monitoring as well as all tidal, bathymetric, buoyage, wreck and obstructions data.
* Carry out and supervise the maintenance of all survey, tide gauges and other environmental monitoring equipment.
* Support the IT department with recommendations for new upgrades to the tidal system.

In this role you will also be responsible for the GIS Technician and will ensure that they are trained in the appropriate skills and allocated a regular programme of work.
Experience Required:

* Bachelor’s degree in Hydrographic, Land or Engineering Survey or equivalent.
* IHO/FIG/ICO Cat’A/B’ Certified.
* Practical experience in managing and undertaking hydrographic surveys.
* Previous experience with single and multibeam echosounders, sidescan sonars, RTK and DGPS positioning systems.
* Experience of marine environmental sampling and environmental monitoring techniques.

You will also have knowledge of:

*Conservancy
*Charts / surveying
*Dredging
*GIS
*Understanding of current environmental and tidal monitoring equipment

You will have excellent communications skills and be self-motivated, with an ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines. You will hold a valid UK driving licence and be able to meet the requirements of UK ‘right to work’ legislation.
