Highways Operative / Labourer

BDS Northern LTD are recruiting on behalf of our client for Highways Operatives/Labourers. Please note this position is for an Immediate start – so please only apply if you are available ASAP.

1. To work as part of a team and to accept individual responsibility for undertaking the maintenance of the Highway, Carriageway, Footpaths and Cycle ways.
2. Duties will include the relaying of kerbs, paving and block paving, re-fixing of signs, bollards and other street furniture and carrying out patching repairs or reconstruction of carriageways, footways, and cycle ways.
3. Duties will involve driving/use of specialist vehicles, plant and equipment.
4. Duties will require the completion of all relevant job related paperwork in accordance with agreed procedures.
5. Stand-by and out of hours duties as required and associated record keeping.
6. Trenching works for cabling including reinstatement.
7. Ensure compliance with the Authority’s Health and Safety Policy requirements including the completion of accident reporting.
8. To comply in all respects with the Authority’s policy on Equal Opportunities and Customer Care.
9. Any other duties associated with the post and deemed necessary by the Head of Service.

Must hold a clean full driving license. Preferably to HGV 1 level or be prepared to undertake training to achieve HGV 1 level.
Hold a current NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) qualification in Traffic Management, or be willing to be trained to the required standard.

Please note, this is a long term booking and the client envisages that this will run into 2016.
