Head of Mechanical Engineering

Salary: £81,600 – £93,600 per year

As Head of Mechanical Engineering you will to lead on all the mechanical activities you will lead a team of Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Propulsions teams, ensuring each delivers appropriate solutions.

As Head of Mechanical Engineer you will oversee the design and development of various spacecraft components, systems and structures such as Servicer Buses, Capture Mechanisms and Docking Plates for our future Space projects. And will also

• Oversee the team to deliver the mechanical design and analysis of the mechanical spacecraft, subsystem, and unit level requirements.
• Be responsible for the delivery of engineering work to the schedule and to cost, across ALL projects in UK.
• Report to the Project Manager and Engineering Director about the progress against each project.Work closely with AIV team to ensure that the mechanical team considers ease of manufacture, assembly, integration and test and aligns schedules.Oversee PLM system and Engineering Change Process for MCAD related documentation including specifications, part / assembly / ICD drawings, procedures, work instructions, reports, etc.

• Support generation of inputs to project lifecycle reviews (PDR, CDR, etc).
• Support Procurement with manufacturing supply chain.
• For bids, be responsible for schedule and cost estimates related to their group Manager
• Facilitate resolution of resource constraints across competing projects.
• Review work from the team, particularly at major project reviews.
• Line management of Team Leads – To do these roles, the group leader will work with the team leaders who report to him, but he / she has overall responsibility.
• Identify a resourcing plan and recruitment for positions in your group.
• Motivate, lead and develop others

To be considered for the role of Head of Mechanical Engineering you will:

• Be educated to MSc or BSc level or equivalent in mechanical engineering or relevant engineering or science discipline.
• Have considerable commercial experience in mechanical design in ideally space industry
• Be proficient using SolidWorks, or alternatively other CAD software packages such as CATIA, NX, CREO, etc.
• Be able to prepare and deliver to a project plan.
• Be an experienced People Manager.
• Have knowledge of engineering verification and validation processes.
