Job description:

If you are the type of person who is motivated by an opportunity to use your in-depth understanding of sustainability issues in the food industry to drive maximum impact and develop solutions to the most serious environmental issues facing our planet. This exciting role as Head of Food Transformation is for you.

As senior member of the management team at the world’s leading independent conservation organisation, you will provide strategic oversight and direction to a ground-breaking partnership with Tesco. You will support the food retail sector to deliver sustainable, healthy and affordable food for all, with the ambitious aim of halving the environmental footprint of the UK shopping basket by 2030, through delivery of the Retailers Commitment to Nature.

As Head of Food Transformation, your remit will be to collaborate with Tesco and WWF leads to develop and deploy a cross-cutting advocacy agenda that drives forward retailer led action to transform the UK’s food system. We will look to you to provide strategic leadership and programme oversight and ensure that the goals and ambition of the partnership are met. You will represent the partnership and the Retailers Commitment to Nature at key events and meetings and generate think pieces and content to amplify and strengthen the projects profile too. Managing a highly skilled technical team, you will optimise governance and ensure ambitious plans as well as build relevant collaborations, including business engagement with key CEOs of the retail sector. You will also take responsibility for reporting, monitoring and mitigating risks.

You must have a background in the food industry and knowledge of its sustainability agenda. This will have given you a strong understanding of the key actors in the global food system and how the private sector interfaces with civil society. You will have experience in understanding and negotiating complex issues connected to food systems too. Comfortable operating in a collaborative environment and working in a matrix structure, you will be used to changing policy and practice in businesses. You will also be used to analysing and resolving complex problems involving multiple stakeholders as well as designing programmes and monitoring impact.

In addition, you will be problem solver with strong communication, strategic planning and influencing skills.

How to Apply

If you are excited about our Tesco partnership and the opportunity to halve the environmental footprint of the UK shopping basket, we would love to hear from you. Please apply. Complete the online registration and submit a copy of your up to date CV with cover letter highlighting why you are interested in this role and why you believe you are suited for it.

Every role at WWF is open to applications from all sections of society. We believe in the potential of everyone regardless of; sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic origin, different physical ability, family structure, socio-economics, age, nationality or citizenship, marital, domestic or civil partnership, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other aspect that makes you, well you.

We believe that the more diverse we are the better we become; this brings us together and empowers us to develop, engage and inspire; and critically to help build a future where people can live in harmony with nature. We identify and align with our values: courage, integrity, respect and collaboration.

Our policies and benefits reflect the importance of people being able to have a good work-life balance and being able to bring their ‘full self’ to work.

Our world needs you like never before. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world and we could be the last that can do anything about it. We are looking for people who are passionate about making it politically, socially and economically unacceptable to destroy our planet’s natural resources. We need you to join us in the fight for our world.
