Salary: £24 – £26.4 per hour

We are currently working with a privately owned civil engineering contractor, based in Greater Manchester, to provide a freelance Site Engineer.

As site engineer you will be responsible for day to day surveying and setting out duties along with the Management of the site team. You will need to have excellent communication skills and a solid background of civil engineering experience to be considered for this role, as you will play a critical role in communicating technical issues to both sites and office-based employees.

The role involves liaising with a range of project stakeholders from designers, quantity surveyors and local authorities to clients, utilities and members of the public. Responsibilities also include maintaining strict quality control procedures and ensuring strict compliance with all environmental and health & safety legislation and policies.

You must hold a full UK driving licence and have all necessary kit to undertake the role, including but not restricted to theodolites, levels etc.

Main duties will include:
• Setting out of civil engineering and building works on various sites within the company’s operating area
• Ensure quality control requirements are met and recorded in accordance with specification
• Operate and promote a high standard of health and safety and environment compliance
• Plan and schedule the work and efficiently organise the site in order to meet an agreed programme of deadlines
• Attend regular meetings with the section engineer/sub agent/agent to update on progress of works
• Supervise and monitor the site labour force through general foreman and or supervisors, monitoring the work of any subcontractors to complete the work as per customer’s satisfaction
• Oversee quality control and safety matters on the site, and ensure that regulations are adhered to
• Resolve any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise at any time
• Oversee the selection and requisition of materials for use in the construction / maintenance, to check whether the materials are as specified
• Supervise and ensure proper maintenance of materials and to advise on technology and modifications required for a simpler and cost saving mechanism
• Prepare and monitor all necessary paperwork for the completion of work and get it authorised by the client after their inspection.
• Responsible for ensuring robust records and signed records are in place to avoid any commercial frustrations.
• Maintain standards of safety and comply with Company’s health, safety and environment management system requirements
• Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others in the workplace
• Self-sufficient and able to manage day to day operations on site and compile method statements and Risk assessment.
• Follow and maintain Company standards of quality in accordance with company quality system requirements General management and co-ordination of digital engineering information
• Land survey and mapping tasks including production of drawings
• Assist with the digital computation of construction quantities for tendering and measurement purposes
• Assist with compilation of as built drawings

To be considered for the role you should be able to demonstrate competence in the following areas:
• Experience working on a construction site with site supervision experience
• Sound knowledge of construction methods, health and safety, and legal regulations
• Fully conversant with the use of robotic total station instruments
• Experienced and confident in the setting out of earthworks and structures
• Have a level of experience of AutoCAD as some jobs may require this
• Fundamental understanding of bill of quantities
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills; able to manage projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality
• Ability to develop friendly and professional customer focused relations with others
• Good management skills, with the ability to motivate employees to achieve high standards of compliance
• Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook

You should be qualified to a minimum of HNC level (in a construction related subject), hold CSCS, First Aid and SMSTS cards, have a good level of IT skills and understand manual handling.

This could potentially become a long term role and if everything goes well and both parties agree it could even turn into a permanent role with significant scope for professional advancement.
