The Role:
- To effectively lead and direct a team of Shift Engineers through reactive and preventative works. Ensuring the team are working on the correct priorities at all times by maintaining constant and effective communication with the shift operations manager/leadership team to enable the site to efficiently meet targets. Special focus to be placed around the effective management of shift Engineering team absence/holiday/training schedule to make sure primary duties are supported at all times.
- To provide strong engineering expertise on site to drive improvements in maintenance KPIs, lean working systems, safe systems of work and overall shift performance.
- Complete Major Incident Reports in the aftermath of any machine failure and work with the Engineering reliability team to and site specialists to conclude root cause and preventative measures required as well as supporting and implementing change management
- To lead the morning engineering meeting reporting back on the previous days downtime, KPI adherence and risks moving forward. As well as attending all shift based required meetings throughout the day with the correct level of detail around all engineering issues.
- Identify and drive training needs throughout the team ensuring that the team are competent and compliant in all required areas and the skills matrix is up to date.
- Liaise with external contractors and OEMs to seek and provide specialist shift support where required.
- To ensure strong cross shift communication to include effective handover of outstanding issues, work order completion and any follow up requirements. Ensuring overall engineering capability and continuity on site.
- To provide coaching and feedback to improve maintenance interventions including speed of intervention, quality of completion and effectiveness of the intervention with a keen focus on driving quality Shift Technician utilisation.
The Person:
- Time served Engineering background with a recognised Electrical or Mechanical qualification
- Leadership skills with experience in leading teams and decision making in a high-pressure environment.
- An ability to be direct, work at pace and effectively set direction.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal format with strong IT Skills.
- Pro-active, ability to drive through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Good influencing, presentation, planning, communication and decision-making skills
- Previous experience in a fast-moving manufacturing business
