Join Home Group as our Disrepair Lawyer providing vital legal support on matters of housing management and property litigation to colleagues.

You will be acting for the business in both defending legal cases and taking legal actions as necessary as well as working with our Head of Housing and Development legal team.

Typical day as a Disrepair Lawyer

• Handle and give advice on disrepair claims. This includes getting court proceedings and paperwork ready.
• Helping teams within the company, especially maintenance, to understand and respond to disrepair claims.
• Aid managing rental and leasehold properties, making sure all agreements follow the law, and setting up systems to make processes easier.
• Oversee work given to outside firms, making sure it’s done well and effectively.
• Preparing applications ready for court or tribunal, carrying out research, collecting proof, and writing statements. On Occasion you may be required to represent the company in court or request that another lawyer do so.
• Assisting with other property legal issues, like anti-social behaviour or possession cases, preparing court proceedings and paperwork for these cases when necessary.

You are

• A qualified Legal Executive or solicitor with experience in housing law, particularly disrepair cases, capable of managing your own caseload.
• Experienced in preparing court documents, attending court proceedings, and have a firm understanding of civil procedure rules and disrepair protocol.
• Knowledgeable / have experience in dispute resolution and skilled in negotiating out-of-court settlements, with a deep understanding of court rules regarding costs.
• A strong leader with great training skills, able to oversee and guide a small team dealing with disrepair cases.
• Capable of working independently yet effectively as part of a wider team.
• An effective communicator with robust interpersonal skills, able to interact successfully with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.

Job details

• You’ll manage your own diary, so if you need to nip out to walk the dog or do the school run, we’re ok with that!
• This is a hybrid role and you’ll likely spend at least 2 days in the office and up to 3 days working at home, although adaptable to business needs.
• This is a full-time role but are open to negotiating your working pattern.
