We are looking for a Designated Safeguarding Officer to join our Safe & Sound Team, who is an organised safeguarding leader with a strong understanding of legislation and a passion for providing advice and guidance for Safeguarding and Prevent concerns. Summary of roleSupporting the Safe & Sound Team by being a point of contact for Safeguarding referrals, alerts and queries and case management.
Additionally, you will be required to develop and deliver training to colleagues and learners whilst further supporting their wider development needs on all aspects of Safeguarding.
Brief summary of principle accountabilities
- Provide advice, guidance and support across Babington on all Safe and Sound aspects and support the Designated Safeguarding Lead with complex cases.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of all relevant policy changes, ensuring updates are regular communicated across the business.
- Contribute to developing effective links and relationships internally and externally to ensure the delivery of effective Safe and Sound agenda for learners (internally and via partnerships).Support our Centre and Partnerships managers to ensure that we create a safe and welcoming learning environment for all learners.
- Support and grow our learners by creating an inclusive environment establishing strong communication channels and sharing of information including establishing a ‘voice’ for learners.
- Source and advise on extended support for learners with specific and extended support needs, including development of staff understanding.
- Work with and support managers and colleagues across Babington to ensure they have a full understanding of the Safeguarding and Prevent Agenda and provide updates where appropriate.
- Refer allegations or cases of suspected abuse to the relevant investigating agencies, ensuring they have access to the most relevant up to date information.
- Monitor, maintain and update as required the Central Register (My Concern) and effective relationships with local LADO’s.

Qualifications
- Grade A-C GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent (E)
- Level 3 certificate in Safeguarding (E)
- Level 3 Award in Education & Training (D)
Skills and experience
- Experience of the Welfare to Work & Skills Sector, Apprenticeships or vocational curriculum. (E)
- Excellent understanding of Welfare to Work and ESFA contracts provision, including full awareness of contractual requirements pertaining to each learner group. (E)
- Experience of the post 16 policies relating to funding, learning, delivery, quality and standards. (E)
- Excellent understanding of features of e-learning, along with the benefits and challenges which these generate for providers and learners. (E)
- Expertise in influencing in a complex and changing environment (D)
- Ability to assimilate complex information from a variety of sources and turn these into recommendations and advice for future strategic and operation direction (E)
- Experience of being self-critical, with a view to always improve solutions and processes (E)
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team (E)
- Ability to deliver to agreed targets (E)
- IT literate and proficient in Microsoft Office particularly the Word, Excel and Outlook (D)
