Job Title: Design Engineer

Introduction
Our client is a small, friendly product design and mechanical design consultancy working on varied and challenging projects. We are now looking for an experienced design engineer to complement our existing team

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer using Solidworks.

We need an experienced design someone who has a positive, can do attitude, sees problems as challenges, is passionate about design, both their own and other peoples, and really enjoys their work. You also need:
 A willingness to learn new things where required.
 A quality mindset that means doing high quality work and seeing the results of your efforts is a pleasure for you.
 -The ability to know when something is above your understanding and needs another’s input. This is crucial.
 Meeting skills. –Ability to interact and listen to others well and really understand what is being said and what is required. Taking careful and well structured notes.

Skills and Experience.
7 years+ mechanical design experience using 3D CAD with a minimum of 3 years Solidworks experience
Minimum HNC or equivalent level Qualification or relevant Experience.
in designing Injection moulded Plastics, Sheet metal, Machined components, Metal fabrications, large assemblies and general mechanical design. We do a large range of work types and a wide range of experience would be an advantage
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Experience taking products/parts right through to finished product.
• Be able to produce very high quality 2D engineering drawings without supervision
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
• Excellent Mechanical aptitude.
• Project management experience would also be helpful.

Software:
Solidworks. Microsoft Office suite. Outlook. Fully computer literate

Typical Daily Tasks: Conceptual mechanical design, Idea generation, Brainstorm meetings, Research, Design Analysis, 3D CAD Modelling, Detailed design for prototype, producing engineering drawings and other production documentation, liaising with suppliers for quotes and other procurement tasks, Maintaining of part number records and BOMs. Meeting with clients
It would be an advantage if you have
• Practical hands on experience in a ‘making things’ environment either professionally or personally.
• A University Degree in mechanical engineering
• The ability to engineering calculations
• Product design experience as well as engineering.
• Surface modelling skills in Solidworks.
• Tooling, Jigs, Fixtures experience
• Task/action management system or software experience

Working hours
Generally 9.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Flexible ½ hour either side of these times. Occasional hours outside of this when reasonably required.
