They are currently recruiting for a Team Manager for our Design Appraisal team in Sheffield. The purpose of this role is to lead, develop and coach highly responsive teams that bring thought leadership to both our business and our clients to maximise future business and development opportunities.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership within their areas of expertise and determine solutions for problems, within their discipline, where the parameters are not well defined and where previous experience does not provide any precedent.
Job Responsibilities
To contribute specialist knowledge within their discipline and/or lead in projects which provide commercially focussed support and/or service delivery to internal and/or external clients.
To perform complex assessments, provide specialist advice/solution and training to internal/external clients, research or development work within agreed parameters including budget and contractual requirements.
To produce the deliverable within the agreed broad parameters in an appropriate format and take responsibility to review other employees work as appropriate.
To pursue Continuing Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
To lead, manage and develop the team to maintain an effective and competitive service. This includes recruitment, performance management, talent/succession planning, training and development to build and sustain a high performance culture.
Responsible for driving employee engagement within business or teams to ensure that all employees understand and are engaged in the delivery of both the business and strategic objectives.
Responsible for resource planning including budget management, prioritising, delegating and monitoring of activities and achievements of the team taking into account commercial and contractual requirements pertinent to delivery.
To discuss/ present the deliverable with the internal/external client up to senior level and be able to suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
To mentor/coach team members, as appropriate, to build capacity, capability and support networks to effectively leverage knowledge transfer and application.
To implement improvements in service delivery and to help build the business based on internal/external client feedback.
Responsible for driving safety, quality and business improvements by ensuring that structures, systems, processes and procedures are co-ordinated, effective and efficient to meet business, commercial and management systems requirements whilst improving margin to meet business objectives.
To ensure that activities are conducted in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation and industry standards.
To provide specialist support/advice and resolve technical queries within a discipline to internal/external clients.
May manage work within a discipline and ensure it is in accordance with management system requirements, cost structures and budgetary/contractual requirements.
Job Requirements
Shall possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or equivalent. An additional higher tertiary degree e.g. Masters may be preferred in some regions.
Likely to be Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer or equivalent.
Shall possess sufficient relevant previous working experience as a technical leader to demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the relevant specialist requirements, knowledge and application.
Proficiency in using FE analysis package.
Sound knowledge of EC directive (PED/TPED/MD/ATEX) and companys safety standards.
Knowledge of companys inspection business and Design Appraisal strategic plans and objectives and companys internal systems, processes and policies.
Manage medium sized Design Appraisal operations (between 10-15 staff with multiple disciplines) and deliver budgeted hours and utilisation at the established rate.
