Database Administrator

I am working with a Large Public Sector Organisation in Winsford who are looking for an experience Database Administrator.

The role is permanent and paying £40,035.6 per annum.

Role Profile:

Responsible for the day to day management, support and maintenance of databases and applications; monitoring thresholds, managing alerts and pro-active planning and configuration of availability and capacity requirements, in order to ensure systems are fit for purpose.

Scope:

Third line specialist technical maintenance, support and development of database platforms within the Organisation. Manage all operational database environments (SQL Server and Oracle).

Perform upgrades and patch applications as determined by the technical strategy; work with Projects, the business and other IT & BS colleagues to ensure the application is fit for purpose; build, configure and test databases and applications; ensure adequate test platforms are provided for user acceptance testing.

Communicate with key stakeholders regarding planned and unplanned outages, changes and remedial work.

Create and manage back-ups and associated activities; enabling, monitoring and optimising of disk space; progress and/or resolve any subsequent issues.

Assist Project Teams by contributing to the development of service manuals prior to implementation. Ensure the quality of content meets the required standards for handover into the support arena and maintain the manual as appropriate throughout the lifecycle of the application.

Provide consultancy and specialist knowledge to project and B&ITS colleagues regarding technical specifications and impact assessment of new/upgraded technologies.

Develop excellent working relationships with system owners, customer groups, 3rd party service providers and other Forces in order to share good practice and achieve best value from the Force applications and databases.

Participation in IT service and Force continuity exercises; meeting the requirements of the business, contribute to the process of resilience planning for core systems and maintaining continuity of service.

Continually review developments in IT Technology and assist in the identification, evaluation and implementation of new products and services which will improve the support of the force’s infrastructure.

Experience and Qualifications

:

Advanced level – educated to level 5 or equivalent experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

High degree of technical knowledge, business analysis and project management to provide technical leadership of database management.

Customer facing skills to engage with internal business representatives and external information management and infrastructure specialists.

EXPERIENCE:

Entry level significant experience in Database Administrator in Oracle and some SQL servers across various platforms including Windows and Unix.
