Salary: £31,562 – £42,270 per year

Atlantis Medical is currently recruiting a Children’s Diabetes Nurse Specialist to work Acute and Community Based in the Essex Area. The role is a Full-time job.

All staff must follow the Safeguarding policies and guidelines, know how to seek specialist advice and must make themselves available for training and supervision as require.

The post holder will be accountable and responsible for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections and must comply with the standards set by the Health Act 2006: Code of Practice for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections (revised January 2008).

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and utilise appropriate advice and support mechanisms to facilitate and empower families, children and young person. To prevent re-attendance and re-admission into hospital.
The post holder will assess, plan and evaluate the needs of the child and family, without direct supervision.
The post holder will recognise the acutely sick child with diabetes, take action and respond appropriately within their competencies.
Utilise opportunities to facilitate and develop health promoting activities in the home or community setting.
The post holder will exercise tact and ensure confidentiality in relation to all duties.
The post holder will participate in the “on-call” arrangements outside office hours for children with diabetes.
The post holder will act as a role model and a resource/advisor sharing expert knowledge with other professionals within the acute and community settings.
Participate in the implementation of relevant research findings and contribute to the delivery of evidence based healthcare.
Initiate risk assessments and escalate concerns accordingly, liaising with and report any incidents to Service Lead.
The post holder will be responsible for advising on insulin and dietary adjustments within agreed policy boundaries.
The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist telephone advice to families and young person regarding their diabetes.
