Salary: £36,000 – £54,000 per year

On behalf of our client we seek an experienced Buyer. The company is an engineering business involved in the design of a range of steelwork and plate work and unique fabrications covering numerous industries. Based in Derbyshire they have an excellent reputation across a wide aspect of work with many clients and are now seeking a Buyer.

Role:

To purchase a wide variety of structural steelwork members.

Including plate, flat, and other associated construction materials, elements and fixings, such as bolts, paint etc.

To purchase all sizeable company consumables including fabrication shop accessories such as welding rods, work clothing, visors etc.

To liaise with all relevant company departments to ensure all materials are purchased in line with eh departmental needs, project program and within the budget.

Regular communication with stock yard to ensure stock availability and ongoing requirements are maximised to the most economic effect.

Meetings as required with estimators, project managers, and workshop staff etc. etc.

Buyer Requirements:

Ideally, we seek an experienced existing Buyer with at least 2 years’ experience working as a Buyer within the engineering / steelwork industry.

A familiarity with steelwork sections, members, bars, plates etc. will be required.

The candidate will need to have a broader knowledge and understanding of other associated elements involved in the supply of steelwork and engineering fabrications and assemblies such as bolts, paint, cladding, plant hire etc. through to workshop consumables.

The ability to read engineering drawings, bills of material, material lists etc. will be required.

Must have a keen and accurate eye for detail to ensure all materials required are covered, budget expectations are met, and the delivery times meet all the program requirement dates from the yard to the shop to site. Purchasing all materials in time to ensure the timely delivery of all materials is absolutely essential for the whole project life-cycle.

Any experience with; nesting / nesting software or similar, software systems used in purchasing (maybe an MIS system) would be advantageous, but word / excel and general Microsoft office skills are essential for this role.

An excellent telephone manner and presentable appearance for this role as well as the ability to negotiate and drive a “hard bargain” to always strive to achieve the best possible purchase prices without compromising the quality or the project delivery requirements.

Any necessary training in areas will be given by the company.
