Providing maintenance, refurbishment and new build services to a number of blue-chip customers predominately within the decent homes sector. They operate throughout the South East region and have an experienced team in excess of 100 direct employees that can be relied upon to deliver small maintenance works to £m design and build projects. Buyer

They are now seeking to appoint a Buyer to join their commercial team. This position will be reporting into the Commercial Director, and you will be responsible for negotiating and procuring materials and plant ensuring that the most competitive price is achieved. Liaising with all relevant parties regarding the delivery of materials in accordance with the programme and project plans using a call off system. The role also requires the Buyer to establish a strong relationship with suppliers and come to agreements of yearly price lists. You will manage and delegate tasks successfully to others to maximise time and efficiency.

Responsibilities include:

* Ensure price, quality, lead times and traceability throughout the procurement process

* Identify and implementing procedures to reduce spend/ achieve cost savings

* Evaluation of project plans/drawings

* Take off materials required for projects from drawings and specification.

* Responsible for ensuring materials meet required specification

* Arrange client meetings, including product approval

* Manage distribution of materials to projects

* Supplier negotiation to ensure most competitive price always achieved

* Ongoing budget management

* Arrange for delivery of materials in accordance with programme and project plans

* Establish strong relationships with site managers and suppliers

* Yearly Price list agreements set up with key suppliers

You will have:

* Excellent communication and negotiation skills

* Relationship building and networking skills

* Well organised and able to manage your time effectively

* Financial and accounting knowledge for calculating margins, gross profit and discounts

* An understanding of supply chain management and logistics

* Excellent computer skills and knowledge of spreadsheets

* Excellent attention to detail and high standards for quality control

* Personable with a confident manner

* Be able to be quick thinking with a flexible attitude to the role

* Three years plus as Buyer within a UK based contractor

* A pro-active approach with a skill for problem solving.

* Stable work history

* An understanding of the construction process and industry standard procurement procedures.

* Good understanding of standard construction forms of contract will be a distinct advantage.

* Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

* Ability to factor in both project level and sector level considerations when determining the best value procurement strategy.

* Hold a full UK Drivers Licence
