Business Manager – For an Apprenticeship Scheme company

Contract Term: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract Secondment 

Location London or Midlands optional plus flexible agile working – 35 hours per week

Business Manager role and responsibilities:

Our client enables industries to employ apprentices without the burden of recruitment, management and training costs. They place an apprentice, provide the training, minimising the employers risk of recruiting an apprentice for the longevity of their training programme and charge the employer for the time the individual is working on site. It works by recruiting new clients or apprentices and matching them with different employers over the course of their training. 

The Business Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the business and ensuring the company is compliant in line with all funding agreements and companies house requirements. You will provide direction to the team with the aim of creating and embedding operational management policies and processes and management of staff and creating an improved culture of delivering timely results. 

The Business Manager will work closely with Construction Partners, College Partners funding organisations colleagues to provide a proactive, customer focused operational service.

Business Manager main responsibilities will be:

  • Implement and manage new funded programs, including recruitment and training of new staff and ensure all compliance requirements are met in line with funding agreements 
  • Lead the annual strategy and budget process. Create and implement operational plans with clear KPI across all business programs and staff members
  • Overall management of the company’s Shared Apprenticeship Scheme, including all customer services, policies and procedures and financial management 
  • Create and manage organisational performance and reporting systems, leading monitoring and evaluation. Write monthly board reports and attend monthly meetings to review performance
  • Develop, deliver and manage a business development strategy targeting key partners which will assist in apprenticeship creation in the construction industry 
  • Develop, deliver the process and management of the demand plan for job 
  • Review, create and embed key policies and procedures for successful business delivery Responsible for all financial management 
  • Create and deliver the marketing strategy to ensure apprenticeship job creation 
  • Manage all customer relations and complaints 
  • Review and update all auditing procedures to ensure compliancy 
  • Overall responsibility for of staff management including all apprentices. Direct line management of all direct reports, review of staff structures in line with new programs, ensuring capacity planning is mapped out in line with business strategies and budget
  • Lead on all health and safety procedures 
  • Identify and apply for external funding to support the company
  • Be the main port of call for all of the business and attend key meetings as required. There may be weekend and evening meetings and events to attend 

Business Manager candidate profile:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong management skills with experience of operating complex projects Strong stakeholder management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with a proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and customers
  • Track record of embedding systems and processes;
  • Ability to set performance indicators to deliver the company’s delivery plan
  • Experience of managing and developing staff, including the establishment of a positive performance culture where continuous improvement is achieved;
  • A demonstrable commitment to customer service

Business Manager desirable skills include

  • Management qualification
  • Experience of working on apprenticeship projects within the construction industry
