Job Description
Role: Business Development Manager – Freight Forwarding
Location: Anywhere in the UK (Hybrid role)
Package: circa £50,000 – £70,000 + uncapped bonus + Car allowance +++
Our client is at the forefront of the UK’s technology-driven logistics sector, they provide intelligent, international supply chain solutions to retailers, brands, and manufacturers.
To develop and secure additional business with new and existing customers in the Company’s chosen sectors of operation. To raise the profile of the Company through networking activities and developing relationships with new and existing customers. To contribute to the Company’s overall business goals.
Key Tasks & Accountabilities:
- Generate new business in line with agreed financial targets.
- Work with prospective and existing customers to devise and sell Forwarding solutions.
- Manage the overall process of customer enquiries.
- Report business development progress weekly to the COO.
- Conduct market research and gain market intelligence sufficient to develop a pool of business opportunities.
- Identify, assess and report opportunities for growth and development via new customers, new routes and new services.
- Identify new business opportunities including registration for ITT’s/RFQ etc.
- Represent the Company, present proposals and where appropriate, progress leads through to business generation.
- Analyse and interpret customer data and information in order to prepare and submit tender and proposal documents.
- Identify potential partners where their involvement will help secure profitable business.
- Manage enquiries and leads through to successful contract agreement, overseeing the transition into operational implementation.
- Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with existing and potential customers.
- Review the business development process (Cradle to Grave) and its procedures continually, conducting a formal review annually.
- As a member of the Sales Team, contribute to the achievement of strategy and the Company’s wider corporate objectives.
- Participate in planning marketing strategies that maximise opportunities for business development.
- Promote the Company name through increased market awareness raising campaigns and exploiting public relations opportunities.
- Ensure colleagues and the workforce is kept informed about business development activities through variety of communications methods that keep people up-to-date on progress.
- Provide timely and accurate business development reports to the COO.
Performance Indicators:
- Delivery of business growth in line with personal financial targets & KPI’s
- Covering organic growth with existing customers
- Covering new business with new customers
- Telesales, Intro Visits, Quotations, Service Visits
- Support the implementation of new Business into Operations (SOP)
- Keep all aspects of CRM updated on a daily basis
- Generate new business from existing customers
- Target FCL & LCL imports from Far East, Sub-continent & USA
- Shipper profile – 1-250 Teu per annum
- Airfreight – Worldwide

Knowledge and experience
Essential:
- Transport and Freight Forwarding experience (sea and air experience essential)
- Process bookings from customers
- Handle and coordinate container movement from port to final destination
- Complete daily/weekly/monthly reports in a timely and accurate manner
Preferred:
- An understanding of customs procedures
- Assistance with training new and inexperienced colleagues
