Company Information

We have been retained by a key client of ours to recruit a Building Physics Lead. My client is a multidisciplinary practice of Consulting Engineers providing a full range of Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health design and offer specialist services such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation, electrical network analysis and offer full REVIT BIM capabilities.

My client works in many sectors, from the leisure industry to Mission Critical Data Centres. We are helping our client grow their company, with a focus on building a strong Mission Critical Design Consultancy in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Having vast industry experience enables my client to ensure our clients receive expert advice and leading engineering design services. We are helping our client to look to expand our global team recruit a CFD Engineer to play a crucial role in the management of our global operations.

Role

Reporting into the Director, UK and Other Sectors, you will lead the CFD team of building physics engineers to develop the overall MEP for an optimised end to end CFD Process. You will liaise with the client on the requirements needed for each project and collaborate with stakeholders across aerodynamic development, CFD correlation and CFD methodology to understand work-flow requirements and opportunities. You will be working with hardware, software, and process engineers to develop technical solutions for the CFD workflow using latest technology and help grow the building physics team.

Responsibilities

  • Client Facing with good communication skills internal and externally
  • Leads the Building Physics team in the design and delivery of projects/services to agreed client requirements, budgets, profit margins, quality standards etc
  • Adopts a ‘player/coach’ approach, getting proactively involved in project design and delivery
  • Ensures projects are appropriately resourced, identifying changes needed in advance of it becoming a project delivery issue
  • Ensures data on ‘Float’ is up to date and time is being accurately recorded by team members
  • Assists the SLT with CFD business strategy and provides expert guidance within the team
  • Mentors, coaches, and develops less experienced members of the team
  • Prepare accurate technical reports and lead in project design teams to implement the conclusions of the work
  • Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed.
  • Ensure compliance with all Statutory and Regulatory obligations
  • Ensure the Design Team is kept fully informed of all technical and other information necessary for the duration of the project
  • Attend Client Meetings and de-brief the team accordingly.
  • Produce all related design information, ensure that all calculations are prepared and signed off in accordance with the requirements of the IMS, relevant Standards and Codes of Practice and our conform to our internal processes and methodology’s.
  • Builds long term relationships with existing clients to ensure we are considered for their future projects
  • Networks and builds relationships with potential new clients as required, resulting in the winning of new projects

Prior Experience, Knowledge required

  • A Chartered Engineer, with a BSc/BEng in a relevant engineering discipline eg BEng General Building Services or qualified through experience
  • Further qualifications/professional memberships in CFD
  • Have at least 10+ years’ experience as a consulting engineer
  • Already operating at Principal Engineer level or equivalent
  • Experienced at confidently representing other engineering services disciplines in client meetings
  • Sound knowledge & working application of key health and safety issues/legislation
  • High level of experience at chairing and facilitating project team meetings
  • In-depth knowledge of CFD modelling software,
  • Teamwork – Works in collaboration with others, understanding their needs and adapting their style to get the best out of people
  • Communications – able to present to and influence others at all levels, internally and externally
  • Self-motivated and driven – able to work under pressure and under own direction

Preferable skills and experience

  • In-depth knowledge of CFD modelling software, preferably Six Sigma
  • Significant experience of specification design for a range of building types/sectors including data centres
  • Flexibility – demonstrates a flexible approach to tasks, proactively supporting in all areas when needed
