Associate Design Director

Overview
•Associate Design Director required for leading National M & E Contractor
• To provide Leadership across overseeing the Design team in the management and delivery of all design works across all current projects.
• To ensure that all designs meets the clients requirements, programme and business needs

As Associate Design Director your duties will include but will not be limited to:
• Managing the Building Services Design departments processes, including all technical, production specification, QA and documentation that is required
• Ensure that the design work meets all quality, legislative, H&S, environmental costs and requirement associated with the M&E Design project
• Manage the allocation process, expenditure of all design fees & costs across the projects and provide control of the departments P&L
• Lead and input into M&E design solutions providing technical guidance and direction
• To be client facing when required and discuss directly with customers to determine their needs and develop satisfactory solutions
• To provide technical M&E design advice during and post construction, provide troubleshooting when appropriate and follow up when necessary with visits to sites to resolve and investigate any M&E Design issues
• To liaise with external designers, suppliers and contractors to deliver cost effective designs ensuring value engineered solutions
• Carry out any other duties at the discretion of your reporting director and be consistent with the nature, responsibilities and seniority of your role.

Qualifications
• Minimum Degree Qualified
• Chartered Engineer and be a member of a recognised professional institute

Knowledge and Experience

• Must have been in a relatively similar role
• Experience of working in both a design consultancy and a design and build company
• Experience of design management including multi-disciplinary design with both internal and external organisations. Design functions to include mechanical, electrical, controls, architectural, civil/structural and specialist design work such as acoustics, air dispersion and environmental aspect of the related project work
• Past experiences of working on a range of £2-20M projects, specifically with renewable energy solutions.
• Familiar with RIBA Plan of Work and relevant design stages
• Excellent understanding of Boiler/CHP/Plant rooms. Energy centres and systems design with a good understanding of heating/cooling distribution design principles
• Good knowledge of CHP, Biomass, geothermal, emerging LCZ and other renewable technologies
• Familiarity of steam system design principles
• Experience in leading and mentoring design risk reviews
• Quality Assurance compliance experience
• Aptitude to investigate and develop emerging low carbon technologies and apply these to our proposals and detailed design work
• Good knowledge of forms of contract used with the Building Services Industry
• Must be a key communicator, both verbally and in writing.
• Utilise broad experience of coaching, motivating and managing performance to inspire individuals in the M&E Design team, recognise and acknowledge their contributions
• Ensure the team is appropriately skilled and resources are efficiently and effectively organised.
• Be able to implement the internal relationships with colleagues to work effectively as part of a team
• Represent the company through positive liaison with clients
• Proactively help and support others to achieve their objectives
• Provide elicit cooperation and support from Senior Management and other departments to develop creative and analytical thinking to deliver the service effectively through promoting continuous improvement
