Assistant Finance Officer – Portishead

Our client, based in Portishead, are looking for an assistant finance officer to join their team on a temporary basis, until the end of April 2015.
The main purpose of the role will be to assist the Finance Manager and other Finance Officers with a range of accounting activities, including annual budget preparation, interim monitoring, closing of accounts, outturn reporting and exchequer functions. To support and give guidance to staff within the Advisory department. To oversee and monitor the workloads of the Finance Assistants.
The ideal candidate will be familiar with SAP and have an aptitude for Microsoft Excel.
The postholder is required to undertake a range of advanced financial tasks involving the interpretation and application of accounting codes of practice in relation to budget preparation and monitoring, and closing of the accounts. To be fully effective, the postholder must therefore have:
a)a professional Accounting Technician qualification, such as AAT or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
b)detailed knowledge of the accounting requirements of local authority services;
c)detailed knowledge of the operation of SAP accounting is desirable
d)Finance related work experience
