BAE Systems Maritime Services are recruiting for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join the growing International Projects team within their Fleet Services business stream. The Assistant Commercial Manager will be tasked to provide proactive and effective leadership on all commercial aspects of business winning and delivery of contracts within the established Saudi Naval Programme. The role will be based in HM Naval Base Portsmouth and require occasional, short duration, visits to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate will help strengthen the existing team responsible for supporting the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) Al Jawf Class Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs). This support includes modifications to the ships and supply of spares, repairs and technical services utilising a core team in Portsmouth and a deployed team in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
As the Assistant Commercial Manager your main responsibilities will involve:
Reporting to the Commercial Manager – International, the role requires a broad working professional knowledge and understanding of Commercial Principles, Techniques and Practices, including an understanding of the impact and implications of decisions made.
You will work with other functional representatives, project teams, customers and suppliers to meet operational needs of line management and the business. You will demonstrate this by providing commercial support, contract management and administration activities for a range of bids and contracts within the Saudi Programme.
Developing appropriate commercial strategies in order to deliver compelling business proposals to existing and potential future customers.
Effectively processing bids and tenders through leadership of the Bid Approval process which limit risk to the company whilst maximising profitability.
Ensuring compliance with BAE Systems policies and procedures together with the commercial aspects of the Life Cycle Management.
Development and maintenance of good customer relationships and progression of the partnership/collaboration we have with BAE Systems Saudi Arabia.
Supporting continuous improvement and innovation within the commercial environment.
As the Assistant Commercial Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
A good understanding of the Defence Sector.
Understanding of and compliance to Business Ethics requirements (Code of Conduct and Responsible Business Conduct).
Knowledge of product life cycle management and commercial processes.
Understanding of contract terms and conditions.
Cultural awareness of a Middle Eastern Export customer.
Ability to co-ordinate with other departments to meet deadlines and targets.
Ability to follow up activities to ensure inputs from others are received and progressed to conclusion.
A Service Excellence mentality.
Responsive to the needs and wants of the customer by understanding their requirements, through researched understanding, open discussion and candid clarification questions.
Ability to work unsupervised and provide solutions for management consideration.
A key requirement is to be flexible to travel within UK and overseas.
Excellent written and spoken English.
A strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
