Our client is a highly respected specialist in recycling waste to land, providing their customers and farmers with a cheaper, greener alternative to landfill and fertilisers. The business operates nationally and has resources and expertise which are second to none.
Supported by a team of field based farm liaison managers and agronomy advisors and working closely with your counterparts in Transport and Site Operations, you will be responsible for the forward planning of land and temporary storage use, farm network management and environmental permitting ensuring that the business has sufficient Environment Agency approved outlets for customer waste streams as and when needed.
This is a busy and highly influential role at the centre of a successful multidimensional logistics operation which will involve a mix of office and field based working. Prospects for the business are excellent with future organic growth and acquisitions in prospect. As a member of the Senior Team you will have the opportunity to play a key role in an exciting new phase of the Company’s development.
The Role:
• Working several months in advance, ensure the availability of adequate land bank with suitable permits, in all areas in which the Company operates and the availability of temporary storage options (Waste Transfer Stations, Tanks, Lagoons)
• Ensure communication with colleagues and strong relationships are maintained with all external stakeholders e.g. farmers, landowners and the Environment Agency
• Actively respond to any environment or commercial issues (e.g. spillages, striping) arising from spreading operations
• Ensure that operations are carried out compliantly and that the highest standards of H&S are maintained across the team
• Lead and manage the performance of the team
• Manage the department’s performance against targets and the budget
• As a member of the Executive Team, contribute to the decision making and the formulation of business strategy
The Person:
• FACTS qualified (or equivalent), previous experience in agriculture and in recycling to land or related activities highly desirable e.g. bio solids, bio-waste, by product recovery, waste water / sludge / farm slurry / compost / digestate / sewage recycling,
• Previous roles may include: Area Manager, Contract Manager, Agronomist, Agronomy Manager
• Active knowledge of Waste Regulations/Land Spreading regulations and of land spreading techniques and equipment
• Experienced in dealing with the Environment Agency
• Strong communication and influencing skills
• Commercial nous: able to negotiate sensible commercial deals (e.g. with farmers)
• Experience of team leadership and management
• Organised, able to plan effectively with sound attention to detail
• Comfortable taking the initiative, flexible; unfazed by sudden changes (e.g. in the weather!)
• Willing to become “hands on” when required
