Purpose of the Job
To improve information and access to wheelchair adapted and other accessible and adapted housing in the social housing sector for disabled people in Brighton & Hove. This project aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of adapted stock management by ensuring that disabled homeseekers are matched to available adapted stock.
Principal Accountabilities
- To gather applicant data on the housing register to ensure that details of mobility needs are accurately recorded:
- Carry out a comprehensive audit of information on the housing register and update the register as required.
- Gather data from other sources, e.g. Occupational Therapy, Housing Officers, Supporting People and other agencies as appropriate.
- If necessary, devise and implement a self-assessment form to send to those on the housing register for whom there is missing or incomplete information.
- Refer applicants for further assessments to the council’s medical adviser/Occupational Therapy as required.
- To ensure there is accurate data on the extent of accessible and adapted properties in the social housing stock.
- Carry out a comprehensive audit of all recorded information on accessible and adapted properties.
- Ensure that this data is accurate and up-to-date, by liaising with colleagues in Occupational Therapy and Housing Management.
- To ensure that the best use is made of existing housing stock.
- Work with the under-occupation officer to target those in adapted properties they no longer need.
- Ensure that Housing and Lettings Officers and surveyors are able to identify properties that have the potential to be adapted and devise procedures to achieve this.
- Work with housing associations to ensure that new developments with wheelchair adapted properties are advertised early and targeted effectively.
- Work with the Sussex Sub-Regional Choice Based Lettings Scheme to ensure that good practice and policy is adopted Sussex-wide.
