Proposition
As an ICT Technical Practitioner you will provide vital day to day transactional technical activity and second line support for the delivery of lean, cost-effective computer, network and ICT services; part of a wider team who help us to keep the public safe as well as relentlessly pursue criminals.

Role profile
Maximum uptime and availability of systems is vital to our users. Your challenge will be to keep our systems fit for purpose and operational whilst at times also developing new and improved capability. You´ll deal with incidents and do planned routine jobs systematically, keep users informed of systems developments, availability and capacity, identify root causes of recurring problems, report trends and incidents, assess the risks and wider impact of new systems and enhancements. There will also be involvement in project implementation of new systems to deliver business value.

You will:

  • Provide support across a predominantly Microsoft server infrastructure
  • Have knowledge of Active Directory, Roaming Profiles, DNS, and Group Policy
  • Have experience of printing and print servers
  • Experience of Microsoft Exchange and Hyper-V / Virtualization beneficial but not essential
  • Complete planned routine maintenance
  • Keep users informed of system developments, availability and capacity
  • Identify root causes of recurring problems and report any trends

Candidate Profile
To be effective from day one, you should have experience and a good track record in an ICT technical role. The ability to use a range of technologies and tools, and familiarity with at least one complex technical skill area along with the ability to manage high volume workloads.

Together with excellent customer service skills, ideally candidates will also have a working knowledge of ITIL based ICT operation plus excellent team and communication skills along with a drive for continuous professional development. Candidates will also need to have a willingness to travel and therefore hold a current driving license. There may be a requirement for occasional use of a private vehicle, for which expenses will be paid
