What employment details can be accessed through the HMRC app?
The app, which can be used by anyone, provides five years of employment and income history, along with your National Insurance number and latest tax code.
These details can also be printed or downloaded to be shared with a new employer – providing the same information HMRC would post if contacted directly, but without the need to call and then wait for a letter to be sent out to you.
How do you download the HMRC app and sign up for an account?
You can download the free HMRC app from:
Follow the instructions on screen to complete your app settings – you’ll then be asked to sign into your account.
You’ll need to know your Government Gateway user ID and password to sign into your account on the app for the first time. If you don’t already have an ID and password, you can create these on the same sign-in page.
Once this is all set up, you won’t be prompted to sign in with your ID or password again. You can log in using a pin, fingerprint or with facial recognition, depending on what your device supports.
How do you access your employment history through the HMRC app?
- Once open, the app will show your personalised ‘Money’ screen. Select the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) section.
- Select ‘Check previous tax years’.
- You will see ‘Your PAYE Income Tax History’. You can scroll down to see the five previous years.
