Salary: £47,400 per year
We are seeking a Senior Applications Engineer to work for a manufacturer of electro mechanical machinery based in Swindon.
The hours are Monday to Thursday 7.30am – 4.30pm and Friday 7.30am – 12.45pm. The salary is £47,400, benefits include a pension scheme 25 days annual holiday plus statutory.
Reporting to the Technical Director, you will be part of the engineering leadership team taking personal and functional responsibility for the delivery of cutting-edge electromechanical designs and products. Leading a small team of engineers and technicians, you will be directly responsible for developing cost-effective solutions that meet requirements as set out the by the business. Coordinating with all areas, you will be responsible for translating customer requirements from initial request, through sampling and approval to volume production implementation in a design for manufacture environment.
Key duties:
• To lead by example, communicating status and demonstrating technical knowledge with considered decisions based on a sound theoretical approach, practical application and experimental activity
• To manage a small team of multi-disciplined engineers and technicians whilst working collaboratively with cross-functional technical teams
• To work collaboratively with the technical teams to develop hardware, perform calculations, simulations and tests to deliver robust, innovative designs that meet customer requirements
• To maintain clear, concise and accurate documentation for any solutions developed
• To assist the business with identifying existing product or application issues and then delivering robust, proven solutions
• To construct and evaluate test samples in conjunction with the technical teams
• To undertake air performance, vibration, acoustic noise, EMC and LVD testing, ensuring designs meet specification
• To ensure legislative documentation, reports and declarations are produced and maintained for demonstration of product compliance to relevant directives
• To ensure timely completion of project activity, monitoring and reporting progress
• To understand product performance principles, identifying key specification issues
• To supervise, train and mentor junior staff
Skills & Knowledge Required:
• Minimum 2:1 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related field
• At least 5 years’ previous experience in similar role
• Ability to use 2D and 3D CAD tools at component part and product design level
• Knowledge and application of engineering materials and manufacturing processes
• Familiarity with electrical and electronic control principles in an electromechanical environment
• Familiarity with turbomachinery, rotating machine concepts, dynamics and fluid mechanics
• A working knowledge of the principles of vibration and acoustics is desirable
