Assistant Lighting Designer.

We are currently offering an exciting opportunity to enter a specialist industry that is varied and interesting, and that has a genuine demand for good lighting designers.

Once trained, you will work on building specifications produced by, electrical engineers, architects, electrical contractors, end users, interior designers and lighting consultants on a wide range of projects at all stages.

At High Technology Lighting you will find a privately owned company, that’s been involved with the supply and design of commercial luminaire solutions to a wide range of end users, both nationwide and Europe since 1982.

High Technology Lighting have for many years been involved with the application of lighting technology that address the issues of the ‘carbon foot print’ and energy saving.

We are ideally located in South Leeds, with easy access onto the motorway network

Assistant Lighting Designer.

  • As a ‘Lighting designer’ you will be required to develop the necessary skill base to enable you to undertake the assessment and application of lighting solutions for a wide range of commercial, retail and industrial environments, and produce the necessary information package to present these solutions.

Skill Base

    • An understanding of lamp types and their applications.
    • An understanding of luminaire types and their applications.
    • A fundamental appreciation of architecture, interior and exterior.
    • A fundamental appreciation of mechanical and electrical considerations of interior and exterior spaces.
    • A fundamental understanding of the best practice when offering a lighting design solution.
    • Lighting calculations, their usage and operating systems.
    • Fundamental AutoCAD and technical drafting.
    • Microsoft: Word, Excel.
    • Adobe Photoshop.
    • 3D design systems
  • To enable you to develop the necessary skill base, in house training will be undertaken, in association, where necessary, with our technology partners in the lamp, control gear and luminaries fabrication industries.
  • We will also look for external training opportunities in local colleges or professional institutions, for specialist training in lighting design.
  • In addition to ‘Lighting Application’ training you will need to develop good communication and administration skills to ensure any proposed design is clearly presented with all necessary supporting information e.g. quotation, data Pages and drawings.
  • The ideal candidate should have a design training and interest in problem solving, and the potential ability to oversee/manage a project, as part of a small team, under the commercial pressures.
  • Working Hours 9am till 5pm Monday to Thursdays. 8.30am to 4.30pm Friday
  • 35hrs per week.
  • 23 days holiday allowance per year, plus statutory holiday entitlement.
  • Starting salary @£15k to rise with performance related increments year one.
