Junior Project Designer
Reporting to: Lead Design Engineer
Location: Potters Bar / St Neots
Salary Range: £31,337 – £44,892 (Depending on Experience)
Job Purpose:
- The post holder is part of Design team producing designs, quotations and work packs
- The Junior Project Designer will produce simple quotations and work packs
- The Junior Project Designer is required to apply the design policy, and meet all Electricity Guaranteed Standards and safety standards
- The post holder has the following Financial Authorisation Limit (FAL)
– Approval of quotations up to the value of £24k
Principal Accountabilities:
- Applies the design and pricing policies in the preparation of designs, quotations and work packs
- Gains information from customers and their agents, including on-site meetings, to support the design process
- Passes information to customers, including on-site meetings, when requested to do so
- Manages work load effectively and under own initiative but with guidance from senior team members
- Produces work packs satisfying all safety requirements for approval and issue
- Assists Trainee Project Designers during their training and development
- Produces designs, quotations and work packs to agreed timescales
- The person carrying out this role must have excellent communications skills, be able to prioritise workload and be able to work to tight deadlines with minimum supervision
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified to City & Guilds 232 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience and application of technical skills
- Knowledge of the operation of the electricity distribution network
- Working knowledge of design tools and systems
- Good understanding of the UK Power Networks electrical network and how design affects its operation
- Knowledge of the design and quotation tools and systems used in Connections
- A belief in providing good customer service by accepting accountability for understanding and meeting the customer’s needs
- Full UK driving licence required
Nature and Scope:
The Connections directorate designs and undertakes new and altered electricity connections within the UK Power Networks licence area. The Connections design team is responsible for producing designs and quotations to meet customer enquiries. All works are customer driven and the design team have to manage their time to meet customer expectations but also comply with Licence Conditions, Guaranteed Standards and Safety Standards.
The Junior Project Designer manages a portfolio of simple designs, typically LV extensions and LV and service diversions, providing quotations for customers and producing work packs for delivery teams.
The role requires access to secondary substations to carry out surveys and installation of monitoring equipment.
Although in a planning environment close liaison with delivery teams is required to ensure safe and effective schemes are produced. The Junior Project Designer also liaises with customers to ensure a high standard of customer service is delivered.
