This Building Services Design Practice are looking for an experienced Nuclear Electrical Design Engineer seeking to develop their career in a positive, stimulating and supported environment and join a team where talent is encouraged and growth opportunities unrivalled.

The opening presents the opportunity to join a Building Services team who are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across a plethora of sectors including Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (eg Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Residential, Blue Light, Education, Transportation and Defence

This Electrical Engineer role is to work with the team on a major nuclear framework, the successful candidate will work with the site’s approval department who utilise a wealth of technical expertise to review design proposals in line with the nuclear safety case, both for existing and new installations. You will work with and report to a local MOD line manager who will provide work and guidance for the role.

Responsibilities – Nuclear Electrical Design Engineer 

  • The review and approval of all electrical design changes and proposals affecting the nuclear safety case onsite.
  • Perform detailed calculations to substantiate design changes.
  • Inspect installations and observe operations to ensure compliance with design intent, equipment specifications and regulatory standards.

Daily Activities:

  • The detailed review of design and safety case information.
  • Review and comment on maintenance and survey results.
  • Liaising with other disciplines on design changes.
  • Design operations to agree practicable design solutions.
  • Liaising with naval and nuclear regulator staff to communicate engineering requirements for the site.

Requirements             

  • Qualification in Building Services Engineering and Chartered with a relevant institution.
  • Previous experience working on energy, marine, defence and nuclear projects is preferred.
  • Extensive project experience, involving high levels of technical competence.
  • Experience working on a variety of major multi-discipline design projects.
  • Demonstrable leadership and people management skills with the ability to run a team.
  • Good commercial awareness, business management skills and results orientation.
  • Previous experience producing and reviewing contractual engineering documentation.
  • Finding solutions and options for digital transformation and the industry net zero carbon challenge.
