Product Development Engineer

Salary: £60,000 per year

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a strong technical product development background, and proven experience in a similar role working for a recognised business within the temporary works, formworks or falsework sector. The base is flexible/working from home.

Due to an ambitious and long-term growth plan, our client is now seeking to appoint a Product Development Engineer, which is a senior and critical position to the business, and working as part of team reporting to the Product Development Manager. You will be assisting and supporting in the development of new products, systems and services for the business to ultimately contribute to their ongoing success as one of the world’s leading brands.

The Role

* Production of engineering manufacturing designs and drawings to ensure high quality, safe, innovative, robust and economical products and systems

* Producing mechanical engineering calculations to structurally enhance and prove the development of products and systems, using first principles and analysis software packages

* Development of components and improvements to existing products and systems

* Following departmental QA procedures to ensure suitable high standards and correct tolerances are achieved and maintained in the manufacture and maintenance of products

* Direct liaison with external suppliers in regards to prototypes and quality approvals

* Quality control inspection of newly developed products

* Managing AutoCAD documentation and fabrication libraries for knowledge sharing, innovation and best practice across the business

* Load testing of products as required to determine SWL

* Working closely with the design, sales and operations teams to support their needs

* Visiting sites as required when products are still the initial stages

* Assisting the technical team in data and method statement document approvals

The Person

* You must possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and equivalent qualification or a demonstrable track record of experience within a similar role

* Sound fabrication knowledge, couple with a solid understanding of BS and EN design code requirements for structural design

* AutoCAD and Inventor skills are an essential requirement for this role, coupled with fabrication and assembly knowledge, and an appreciation of different material strengths and grades available, along with structural design abilities

* Formwork and falsework sector knowledge would be an advantage, however allied industry knowledge would be equally acceptable, such as steel structures, structural steelwork, steel fabrication, engineering fabrication, construction products or similar

* You will possess 7-10 years’ experience working in a similar role and / or a product development environment within the aforementioned areas

* Mechanical engineering and fabrication knowledge are seen as essential to successfully carry out this role
