Transport Planner

Salary: £18.71 per hour

Work Pattern: 4 days on / 4 days off (plus cover shifts)

Shift start / finishing times – 2 staggered shifts:

• Shift A: 7.00 to 17.00 hrs
• Shift B: 9.00 to 19.00 hrs 
• 9 hrs/day plus lunch break

This is a key role to provide transport planning function to the business, by performing a variety of complex activities in support of our functional processes and services.

The job holder will be expected to provide outstanding levels of transport planning and other relevant business support to both internal and external clients, to ensure that the end-to-end process from collection through to the invoicing stage is carried out seamlessly, efficiently and to world-class standards.

The job holder is expected to organize, plan and manage transport movements with the carrier base to meet customer requirements within agreed budgeted costs and agreed timescales.

• Review outstanding orders on the transport management system. 
• Plan daily vehicle movements, consolidating orders where possible to increase vehicle fill and reduce empty mileage. 
• Ensure that all vehicle movements are planned using the most cost effective routes to optimize costs. 
• Organise Hauliers/DC transport to meet these schedules. 
• Arrange collection/delivery times & obtain booking references as required. 
• Ensure all details are entered into the transport management system. 
• Produce, complete and distribute daily Trunk Schedule. 
• Produce and complete delivery schedules. 
• HELPDESK – Efficiently manage Helpdesk calls at weekends in a timely manner to ensure minimum escalations. 
• Manage daily issues and escalate if appropriate. 
• Assist the team with other duties where necessary and any additional tasks allocated by the Operations Team Leader.
• Ensure that all jobs have the right customer code assigned, all jobs are rated, all delays and exceptions are recorded in TMS. 
• Provide quality operational data & KPI’s
• Support the Operations Team in with other relevant duties when required

Essential

• Operational experience in transport planning in a busy HGV transport environment
• Strong IT skills across the Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of freight, transport, logistics industry

Desirable

• Knowledge of WTD and EU/AETR rules on Drivers’ Hours
• Knowledge of a European language
