Transport Planner

Location: Preston

Salary: £39,600+ great benefits

This leading multi-national company is looking for an outstanding individual to join their transport team at their leading facility in Preston. The company has achieved significant growth over the last few years and with an ability to attract fantastic staff across their UK sites their future is even brighter!

This role reports into the UK Planning Manager, an individual who inspires and supports to get the best out of their team and will empower the new Transport Planner to deliver exceptional results.

The Role:

  • To lead and support the Transport Planning function through a number of transport planners based both locally & remotely
  • To develop and operate within standard ways of working within the planning function.
  • To implement & manage any changes that are required based on seasonal demand.
  • To ensure that transport plans are produced to a consistent level across all UK Sites, utilising the Paragon system to optimise resource utilisation and achieve cost effective plans.
  • Identify any gaps that occur, conduct root cause analysis for any departmental failures, whilst identifying countermeasures that will improve the process.
  • Define and maintain planning routines to ensure consistency of performance across all sites
  • Ensure that all transport plans are subject to hand-over at desired times
  • Ensure that planned routes meet agreed targeted costs/ budgets
  • Deliver daily briefs, along with setting and delivering teams’ annual objectives
  • To assist with the transition from manual planning to full auto routing capability
  • To support the planning function in creating and managing KPIs to drive performance improvements
  • Develop relationships with Operations Managers, transport managers, and all key stakeholders.
  • To actively participate with team succession planning including training and development of planning team to be fully cross functional
  • To build & support new partnerships with 3rd party subcontractors

The Person:

  • Proven experience in managing & supervising a small team
  • Experienced Paragon user who can utilise and share best practice
  • IT literate
  • Relationship development and familiar with development plans
  • Good communication skills, both written & verbal
  • Commercial awareness & knowledge of working with budgets
  • Process and procedurally driven
  • A natural problem solver
  • Experience of working within a fast paced environment
  • Awareness of Drivers Hours Regulations
