Salary: £30,000 per year

The scheme will fast-track the graduate through an introduction to our maintenance workshops and practices, exposure to vehicle design and production, including gaining knowledge of emerging technologies whilst developing the key communication, financial, HR and H&S competences that are essential in any management role.

The aim of the scheme is to prepare you to become an engineering manager in the future.

During the two year programme you will learn about new processes, products and systems, and will have the responsibility of overseeing the maintenance, renewal and enhancement activities within the bus operations.

About the role:
To learn the various engineering aspects of bus and transport operations including,

Workshop environment
Health and safety management of depot facility
Vehicle inspections, identifying defects and documentation management
MOT preparation and testing
Vehicle maintenance and accident repairs
Maintaining fleet of vehicles to a reliable standard and ensuring the high quality of the buses in operation
Taking on the role of quality engineer and technical engineer
Vehicle refurbishment and major accident repair
Working as part of a team to manage the depot engineering function as part of the supervisory team
Monitoring KPI’s such as Financial Performance, Compliance, Lost Mileage, Service Delivery, Breakdowns & HR Matters

To learn the various engineering management aspects of bus and transport operations including,

Staff management
Work allocation
Service operation and control
Service reliability
Managing employee discipline
Managing local authorities and other stakeholders
About you:

About you:

Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering degree minimum 2:2
Good level of literacy.
Good communication skills both written and verbal.
Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Basic knowledge of the UK public transport industry
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to work under own initiative or under instruction.
Strong focus on customer service and driving customer value
Leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively
Strong decision making skills
Good problem-solving and analytical skills (finding a range of solutions, understanding their effects and making recommendations)
Confidence in dealing with a range of people including bus drivers, engineering and depot team

Desirable:

Able to illustrate interest in mechanics and vehicle maintenance
Knowledge of the local bus operations of Go Ahead Group
Ability to undertake varied work at short notice.
Flexible approach to varying workloads
