Salary: £48,000 – £66,000 per year

Design Manager – Build / Construction – Yorkshire

Requirements:

To be considered for this Design Manager role you must meet the following criteria:

– Knowledge of Building Sector.
– Previous employment as a Design Co-ordinator, D&B Coordinator, D&B Manager or Design Manager.
– Previous experience in building sector projects such as Commercial, Mixed Use, Residential, Apartment Blocks, Student Accommodation, Hotels, Extra Care Housing, MOJ, Industrial, Education or Healthcare.
– Previous Main Contractor employment.
– Pre-construction and Live Works experience.
– High level of communication skills.
– Relevant industry qualification (Degree / HND / HNC etc).

Role:

The role will be responsible for the management of design related issues across multiple sectors from Pre Construction though to the Construction Stages of individual projects.

The function requires experience in the appointment and management of consultants, monitoring the production of detailed design and managing the design appraisal review process for projects in delivery.

Must be experienced in managing the design process, identifying design solutions, design risk and opportunities to support the business in delivering existing pipeline and securing new work.

The position requires that our Contractual Design Responsibilities are effectively managed and related risks controlled.

Responsible for all design activities in conjunction with the development team and transition to the delivery teams.

Manage all aspects of the consultants and specialist sub-contractors activities working with commercial teams to negotiate their appointments.

Key Accountabilities:

– Take responsibility for reviewing the quality of the design information provided at the tender stage and undertake a full gap analysis to advise the bid team of any design shortfalls
– Ensure design solutions are based on the agreed bid strategy, cost and business needs
– Ensure that designers comply with the company BMS / QA protocol
– Ensure that the agreed design is in line with Tender Documentation
– Provides advice on build ability and quality
– Liaise with Bid Managers to agree design management support / input to bid teams
– Discuss and agree with appointed / nominated consultants the responsibilities for developing the design, agree appointments, scope of services, fees and design programme to be provided
– Interview, select, and appoint the appropriate design consultants, design subcontractors, planning and building regulation and other statutory bodies as appropriate.
– Organise and chair design progress and value engineering workshops.
– Liaise with all relevant statutory authorities with regard to their relevant requirements.
– Prepare detailed design review and design gap analysis for all tenders and projects.
– Assist in tender reviews and settlements.
– Represent the company on D&B matters, including attending meetings with potential clients and representatives, and maintain the corporate image.
– Keep abreast of current developments within the industry and identify need for changes in current practice.

My client is a national Building contractor with a busy workload.

As a result of securing further new projects, this employer is looking to strengthen their team further with the appointment of a Design Manager to work on a range of Building Sector projects based in Yorkshire.

Location: West Yorkshire / Leeds, Wakefield, York, Sheffield

Remuneration:

The successful Design Manager will receive:

*£40,000 – £55,000 Basic (Dependant on experience)
