About Us
Heywood Transport Operation consists of 60+ drivers, Planners and Operational support staff across a 24/7 operation, 30 vehicles delivering to 90+ customers with a diverse range of products through own fleet and sub-contractor colleagues.
Your Role
Reporting to the Transport Manager you will lead the day to day transport function at the site. Ensuring the KPI’s that are set are met and where possible exceeded. This shall be achieved through setting the required standards for your team of supervisors and operators that will include strict behavioural standards that develop a considerate and disciplined approach across shifts and departments, building rapport with other departments.
Key Responsibilities
– Managing the day to day transport operation. Including communicating and organisation of sub-contractors and own drivers, operators and planners within your team and ensuring the effective planning and optimum utilisation of the driving resource to ensure customer service and driver’s hours are maximised whilst remaining legal.
– Develop a culture of respect, fun, policy adherence and high performance within own team and department.
– Building long term relationships and partnership with other departments ensuring customer service levels are maintained working toward a ‘one-team’ approach.
– Ensure legal compliance and regulation conformance in all aspects of the department, not limited to health, safety, quality, driver’s hours.
– Communicating throughout departments, ensuring that team briefings include KPIs for staff accountability.
– Proposing, agreeing and implementing service improvements with customers in conjunction with other areas of the business
– Generating and implementing ideas with regards to staff and operational changes, which will help drive continuous improvement.
– Ensuring a secure and safe environment for staff, both in your department and across the wider business.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
– Good educational GCSE level (with HNC or equivalent preferred) or equivalent.
– CPC National/International
– IOSH
– 3-5 years’ experience minimum in a similar role within logistics.
– Ability to be flexible through peak and operational requirements desirable
– Experience of Road Runner/ESP and Kronos
– Strong management experience with both team and stakeholders
– Be able to apply root cause analysis to problems and set plans in place to remove the cause of any issue.
– Excellent communicator
– A display of enthusiasm to succeed whilst bring your team along with you.
– Charismatic and hard working.
