Patent Attorney – Trainee and Qualified
Full job description
Calibre Search Ltd
Salary: £37,277 – £42,602 per year
Having successfully recruited for this position earlier in the year we are seeking an additional ambitious suitably qualified person to join one of Europe’s leading intellectual property law firms based in Munich. The opportunity is for either a highly talented graduate, preferably with a higher degree or PhD to be trained as a Patent Attorney, or a part/fully qualified Patent Attorney with some years of experience under their belt.
The position is based in the International division working with corporate clients and foreign legal associates, where the vast majority of the work is in the English language undertaking the full range of European Patent work. The work includes (but is not restricted to) drafting of new applications in English, prosecuting cases in front of the European Patent Office, drafting Oppositions against granted European Patents and the drafting and filing of Appeal statements. You will be expected to have initiative and be able to work on your own.
The career is an exciting one with huge earning potential in the medium term. If enrolling as a trainee, you will be initiated onto a 3 year training scheme, in which you will become a fully qualified Patent Attorney.
The Person.
Applying as a trainee: no experience in this field is required however you should have an interest in patents, and understand what the role/career path entails.
It is anticipated the successful applicant will be educated to Masters or PhD level, in Physics, Electronic or Electrical Engineering fields only as much of the work is related to these sectors. Advanced level of English is a prerequisite both written and oral, especially as you will be working on technical specifications. Further, a real flair for the use of precise, clear and descriptive English is vital, in particular with regard to condensing complex technical and legal issues into an understandable and compact text, without any sacrifice in clarity. The work is primarily deadline driven, meaning that the person must have good time management skills. Finally, the work will cover the full range of subject matter in the physical sciences, which will appeal most keenly to a trainee who has a real curiosity in understanding how inventions work, but is satisfied with an overview and does not need to spend time obtaining a deeper understanding.
The ability to speak German is not essential, however it would be expected that you are to immerse yourself in the culture, and to learn at your own pace.
