Information Officers – Driver Essential

Sense Cymru are looking to recruit 2 Information Officers (part time) to help deliver the Project ‘Optimise – High St support to people with a dual sensory loss’ across South Wales These roles are offered on a 2 year, part time basis.

has been helping people who are deafblind and with sensory impairments to enjoy more independent lives for over 60 years. We support and campaign for people of all ages, from children through to older people, with a wide range of sight and hearing difficulties and associated communication needs or additional learning disabilities. We provide tailored support, advice and information as well as specialist services to individuals, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them.

About the role

Sense is a UK-wide charity providing support and advice to people who have a dual sensory loss, their families, friends and advocates. We have now set ourselves challenging targets for empowering more deafblind people to secure their rights as active citizens. We are looking for a skilled professional to help us to achieve our ambitious plans.

You will be responsible for liaising with High St Opticians / Optometrists to roll out the support offered by the Project. You will ensure that the Opticians are briefed on what support the Project can offer and that they are happy to refer people with a dual sensory loss directly to Sense Cymru. You will continue to act as the point of contact for those practices in your area. You will also be responsible for making the initial contact with any person with a dual sensory loss referred to the service and assessing what level of advice/support they require. You may then offer that support directly or, if need be, refer that person to colleagues.

A full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle is an essential requirement for this role.

Skills and abilities

The key part of the role will be to liaise closely with Opticians and other professional colleagues to ensure that the Project and the support it brings becomes embedded in the High St practices across the area in which you work.
