Salary: £36,000 – £54,000 per year

This challenging and exciting opportunity, based from the company’s Midlands head office, requires an individual with a construction bid background and proven experience in helping support bids, and ultimately secure opportunities for the business

Our client is one of the UK’s largest piling, foundations, heavy civils and ground engineering contractors, renowned for providing technically advanced and cost-effective foundation solutions. Their offering includes piling, diaphragm walling, ground improvement, foundations and specialist design and installation services to the UK rail, infrastructure, civil engineering, development and construction industries. Their reputation is bui lt on engineering excellence and a commitment to continual innovation, backed by a central technical design and engineering resource, they can deliver the full range of foundations, groundworks, site remediation, piling, geotechnical and structures techniques. As one of the largest specialist contractors in the industry, they are able to provide clients with a total solution, all supported by their state-of-the-art processes and technologies.

Due to an increase in contract awards, business growth in recent years, a significant forward order workload, and a dedication to continued profitable, long term growth across the UK, our client is now seeking to appoint a Bid Writer / Co-Ordinator to support their entire UK Operations. The role will provide bid development and general support to the Commercial Director, and will successfully contribute in helping the company achieve its targets and goals overall.

The Role

* Help create and apply an effective business development and strategy to assist with the drive for sustainable growth through the management of boosting sales and forging strong relationships with clients across the portfolio of piling services

* Nurture the current client base consisting of large and major accounts, with the responsibility for the compliancy and submission of ITT’s, PQQ’s and any other bid documentation in support of the Commercial Director

* You will be required to collaborate with the various internal functions of the business (Estimating, Design, Commercial, Operations and Finance) in order to ensure the right solution that meets clients’ needs

* Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, you will be required to provide one to one support in the day to day bid organisational duties

* Help devise and work to specific business development KPI’s aligned to the wider sales and commercial strategy of the business

* Proactive exploitation of new and repeat business opportunities throughout the UK

* Plan and arrange business development meetings with prospective clients, and where relevant create and deliver tailored presentations, proposals or bids that promote specific service propositions to meet their needs

* To proactively and systematically monitor and track customer sales performance (qualitative and quantitative), and present management information, reports and feedback (sales pipeline, productivity and performance results, customer satisfaction data etc), and where relevant initiate remedial action to maintain the required performance standard

* Conduct regular analysis of the market environment and customer trends that addresses or predicts clients’ objectives, and provide relevant feedback to the appropriate personnel within the company to aid revenue generation opportunities

* Identify business development opportunities, implement marketing initiatives, undertake necessary campaign sales follow up and create relevant sales collate

* Responsibility of CRM system to ensure customer sales data is maintained

The Person

* A proven track record as an accomplished professional with experience of bid management, development, writing or co-ordination

* Experience of working for both parties of a contract (Principal Contractor and Sub Contractor)

* Proven record of success in supporting bidding, with knowledge of the supply chain decision making process

* Contribute to the formal bidding process, and take responsibility for submissions through the whole tender process utilising industry procurement platforms

* Driven to achieve commercial targets, and in doing so, support the company’s business development and bidding objectives

* A market led approach to business, with a clear understanding of the process required to determine and prioritise the needs and goals of clients

* Strong commercial awareness with excellent numeracy skills

* An excellent communicator possessing strong negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate yourself extremely well in both written and verbal communication

* First class analytical skills with strong attention to detail

* Proficient IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office particularly PowerPoint and Excel

* Strong organisational, planning, personal effectiveness and time management skills

* Ability to work flexibly and make decisions quickly
