Head of Risk & Compliance (Part-Time)

Our client, a leading and innovative regional law firm have an opening for a Head of Risk and Compliance to join their highly experienced and regarded Risk & Compliance team on a part-time basis, approximately 21/28 hours per week.

The Role
This role has become available due to the current person retiring at the end of April next year. You will provide overall responsibility for the Risk and Compliance functions at the firm which includes Risk Management, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance and Client Protection.

Key responsibilities:
• Day to day management of the Risk & Compliance team
• Develop and maintain a risk register and ensure it is reviewed regularly by the board
• Continued development and implementation of risk management framework for the firm across its operations
• Overall responsibility for ensuring the firm complies with the SRA Handbook including, conflicts, AML, Sanctions, Information Security and confidentiality issues, outside interests, data protection, fee sharing, commission arrangements, related parties, confidentiality and undertakings
• Establish and manage the firms procedures under the Bribery Act
• Training on compliance issues
• Management and supervision of claims, clarifying issues, reviewing and liaising with all relevant parties
• Develop strategies to reduce future claims
• Act as deputy COLP

The Candidate
• Proven experience of regulatory compliance within a professional services environment
• Experience in regulatory compliance, ideally concerning SRA Handbook or similar regulatory regimes
• Experience in private practice or in-house or with a regulator, up to date working knowledge of SRA and governance issues and the ability to apply these to a variety of situations
• Highly effective interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate at all levels
• Ability to work in a highly pressurised environment
• Ability to handle confidential material and be discreet at all times
• Car owner/driver as will be required to travel between offices
